Can CBD Help Me?

Have you ever wondered if you could help your body heal naturally? If you have, then CBD might be for you.  At R and Remedy, we specialize in making CBD oil and salve using the best quality organic ingredients we can find. We test all of our CBD before putting it into production so we know that our CBD is pure and doesn’t contain any residual solvents used to extract the CBD from the hemp plant.

CBD products are being taken by people all over the world to help relieve different symptoms. But before I go into some of the benefits, it’s important to understand how CBD works. Studies show that the #1 way to get CBD into your body would be to vape or smoke it, BUT we don’t recommend smoking anything. The 2nd best method is to take it sublingually, or under the tongue.  CBD quickly enters bloodstream when held under your tongue for 1 minute or longer. When CBD is absorbed into the body, it moves through the bloodstream to the brain and attaches to special CB2 receptors in the endocannabinoid system.  When CBD reaches the endocannabinoid system it can turn an overreactive fight or flight system off so one can calm down and the body can then focus on its normal functions of healing and repair.  Scientists have found that the endocannabinoid system regulates a variety of systems within our body, such as the fight or flight system, and can improve symptoms surrounding pain, anxiety, sleep, inflammation, and much more.

If you think you could use some help but don’t want to take prescription drugs, CBD might be the natural remedy you’ve been looking for.  Research has shown that CBD might help relieve a variety of symptoms.  I’ve outlined a list below.

  1. CHRONIC PAIN – Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, Migraines, Chronic Inflammation, Neck pain, Back pain, Joint pain, Cancer related pain, Multiple Sclerosis.

CBD may help relieve or reduce pain ranging from minor to major, depending on the strength of the CBD product. I take our own 1,000mg CBD oil for lower back and neck pain.  Recent studies show that ingestion of CBD oil is beneficial for pain relief.

The European Journal of Pain showed that CBD applied onto the skin helped lower pain levels of arthritic test subjects.  Our salve is a favorite among our customers and has helped many of them feel better from knee pain, neck pain, and arthritis of the hands and other joints. Another study from 2012 reported “significantly less chronic inflammation and neuropathic pain” WITHOUT showing signs of increased tolerance to the CBD. Which means CBD will help you feel less pain and you won’t have to take an increasing amount.

My guide to CBD potency for your pain level is as follows:

  • 500mg CBD product: Minor pain
  • 750mg CBD product: Moderate pain
  • 1,000mg or more CBD product: Major/Sever pain

  1. INFLAMMATION – Infections, Illness, Acute Injuries, Autoimmune Disease, Surgeries.

Studies have indicated that when given CBD for a total of 7-14 days after an injury, CBD reduced the way the body responded to these injuries.  Instead of causing inflammation, CBD gives us therapeutic effects that decreases the body’s negative inflammatory immune response which in turn lowers pain.

That same study about inflammation also found that a small-normal dose of CBD everyday lowered nerve pain.

General anxiety and social anxiety are hard to deal with, especially when a person with one or both of these disorders finds him or herself in a large group of new people to interact with. It could be at your job, at a concert, or at the mall. In 2010 a group of people volunteered to be subjected to a “Public Speaking Test” to see if CBD helped cope with Public speaking anxiety. They gave the subjects high doses of CBD. The subjects were analyzed afterwards and were found that they had decreased anxiety after taking the test. CBD was found to have anxiety reducing properties when subjects were submitted to a stressful situation.

Depression often goes hand in hand with Anxiety. CBD has been found to be able to help depression by relieving its symptoms. This study from 2015 found that CBD will relieve and maintain anti-depressant effects by lowering hyperactivity and Anhedonic (lack of enjoyment caused by financial problems, overworking, family issues, etc…) symptoms. CBD enhances serotonin (good feelings) and glutamate (learning and memory.)

  1. STRESS

Stress… similarly with depression, can be associated with anxiety. There is plenty of evidence that CBD could be used for stress as well. It works the same way that it does for anxiety and depression or other neuro-related effects by talking with the cannabinoid receptors in your brain and telling them to calm down.

  1. SLEEP

I started taking CBD after my Fiancé recommended I try it.  After taking my daily dose for the first few days, I got up one morning and felt entirely different than when I got out of bed before. I slept all the way through the night without sweating or tossing and turning.  I woke up feeling noticeably refreshed. I haven’t been able to sleep like that for years.  That is the day I became a believer.

CBD topical creams and salves are becoming very popular in the gym and sports culture, and for good reason! Our endocannabinoid system helps send the chemical messages from our nervous system to the muscle telling it to contract and get stiff. CBD might aid in decreasing those messages, helping your muscles relax. Taking CBD Oil or rubbing a CBD cream or salve after your workout may help your sore body to relax which decreases muscle stiffness, recovery time, and injury to over used muscles.

  1. ACNE and DRY SKIN

If you have read everything up until this point, you’ll see that CBD can help with numerous ailments.  One thing I didn’t see coming was its ability to help with skin issues such as acne and chronic dry skin. I am originally from Kansas and when I moved to Phoenix, I started developing these dry spots on my face from being out in the sun during the dry-heat summers. My skin liked the humidity that it was used to, from Kansas. I started taking CBD for other reasons and a few weeks into taking my CBD oil, I noticed the small dry spots on my face were disappearing! They haven’t come back and I’ve gone through another Summer with no issues. A nephew of mine is also experiencing great results with his skin by taking our CBD oil.  He just started High School, so it is very important for him to have a clear complexion.

A study from 2014 found that CBD may affect the sebaceous glands. The sebaceous glands control how much oil is released onto the skin.  This oil can mix with dirt, clog your pores and create acne.  CBD may help limit the production of oil from the sebaceous glands and therefore help prevent acne from forming.

  1. FEAR REACTION including PTSD

I found an article published in 2016 which reported a study on the effects of CBD on fear reaction. The study found that CBD may help decrease your expression of fear and found that even a little dose of CBD could help. CBD disrupts “re-remembering” which leads to reduction of fear once that memory is retrieved. They also found that it could help fight one’s fears through exposure therapy and that CBD helped aid in the therapeutic healing process.  Lastly, the study showed that CBD could reduce fear caused by sounds or noises, but a larger dose might be required than for fear caused by visual effects.

This study concluded that CBD may have benefits for regulating a learned fear which includes PTSD. (Something feels dangerous because it was trained to be felt that way, like being afraid of a shark while at the beach without ever even seeing one.) It’s suggested that CBD may reduce PTSD until no longer present.

In 2018, the FDA approved the first CBD treatment for 2 different types of seizures, the Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome which comes on in children of ages 3-5 years old and Dravet Syndrome which occurs within the first year with “fever seizures”. There aren’t any other major ingredients besides CBD in this medication. There was over a 40% decrease in seizures after using this medication. HOWEVER, This medication cost over $30,000 per year…

You might not think it, but the endocannabinoid system has major responsibilities in ensuring normal digestive/gut function. As I mentioned previously, CBD may help reduce inflammation, which may help bowel disease and gut permeability. A deficiency in our endocannabinoid system could be associated with things like irritable bowel syndrome, colon cancer, crohn’s disease, celiac disease, and other bowel related illnesses.

This study in 2013 found that vascular tension was reduced by 40% for a person with a pre-existing condition after using CBD.
